All about friends

After clock in at eight in the morning, I was hurrying to my room. My student already waits for me to brainwashing them. Ahha.. After give a short lecture, I went to my PC and start browsing the web. I’ve got a new Friendster message from Bart, my schoolmate at SMSS.

From his Friendser blog, I’ve jump to another link, they’re all friend of mine when I was studying at SMSS. I saw their photo, I read their profile. They’re all happy and success in their life. With enjoy full look and they’re work well.

But how bout me, I was dump in the land where no one knows me. I only regard myself, help myself. But in this state, I can’t go far. I used to be a hero, to be a zero and now I’m the one who looking for my destiny and goals.

When I remembering past time that I’ve gone through. It’s really make me feel sadden. I wasn’t growing at that time. I wasn’t conscious what I want to be, what I want to find and what I really want. I really don’t know. I only pace what my heart tell, never used the brain to think. Now I’m realizing my self.

How to Remember New Words

Two steps will help you remember new words and add them to your college vocabulary: practicing and building. To become comfortable with the new word, practice using the word in your writing, in your speaking, and in your everyday thoughts. Thinking about new words helps you to remember them. Just memorizing lists of words is not very effective. In order for a word to really become a part of your vocabulary, you have to see it used or hear it used in several different ways over a period of time. When you come across a new word you should ask yourself, "Have I seen this word before, have I heard someone use this word before?" Sound the word out and pronounce it to yourself.

People with poor vocabularies tend to ignore words they don’t know. They just skip over them as if they do not exist. People with good vocabularies, however, are curious about words they do not know. They practice the strategies mentioned above of sounding the word out, asking themselves if they have heard it before and then thinking about the word. They may even use a dictionary to look the word up. It is also beneficial to build a personal vocabulary file that will help you keep up with the new words while you practice them. On an index card, write the word and its meaning, a sentence in which you use the word correctly, and variations of the word.

The following guidelines will help you remember new words:

  1. Practice writing the word and its definition often.

  2. Practice saying the word. Use the pronunciation key in your dictionary to learn the correct pronunciation.
  3. Try to learn the word and its meaning the first time you see it.
  4. Make vocabulary flip cards from index cards. Write the word on one side and the meaning on the other.
  5. Make up a sentence you can understand using the word correctly.
  6. Vary the word: try to make it plural, to change the tense, to add -ly.
  7. Practice the word in conversation, being sure to pronounce it correctly.
  8. Use the word in writing assignments as often as possible.
  9. Repeat the word many times in your mind.
  10. Study a few words each day for several days to firmly learn them. Don’t overload yourself with too long a word list.
  11. Notice the words used by teachers, public speakers, people on TV, etc. If they know these words, why don’t you?

Idle Brain.

Sometime this disease is attack me. So hard until make me feel negative, all about negative thing, negative mind. Alas, I have to wake up. Wake up and never ever weak again. Be strong to fight the unnatural and supernatural. Hehehh..

Actually, main thing that I hesitate to do is think about writing. Writing is about pushing your brain to find the ideas, word and theme. In short, writing is about think, think, think and think.

Situation became worst if my mind start boggling. I have the confusion between the need for education and the need of interest and desire. They keep pushing my brain until I feel sleepy and not doing anything. Hurmm.. Or just do a light reading.

By the way, nearly 5 month I’m not read any book. OMG, what happen to me? I hope and wish 22 Jun 2008 will change everything. Especially my mind set and my perspective of views. Better wait that date..

Mysterious puzzle reveals

I’m woke up as early as 4.30am to prepare myself for APC2007 held in PICC Putrajaya. About half an hour later, I arrived in ILPS and with other 4 friend, we continued our journey.

Finally we arrived in PICC at 7.30am, quite on time with schedule. So we need to hurry for registration. I saw many counter open in the PICC reception hall. They were labeled JTM, JPK, JHEKS and many more. So we’re going to JTM counter.

“Cik, saya nak daftar” A little ladies ask my name and browse in the list. After for a few minutes, “Nama Encik takda la dalam senarai kami”. OMG, I what should I do, my name is not in the list. “Actually, saya ni pemenang myskill, Saya baru dapat jemputan ni semalam” then she said “ Oooo.. Myskills yea.. Encik pergi ke kaunter JPK yea…” Ooo Sh**, feel embarrassed.

Later, I was direct to my place, second row behind VVIP. I’m still wondering what medal that I won. I heard a speech from Dato’ KSU and Dato’ Minister. I was order to make a row to take a medal from YB Minister. I was the last one on the row.

After one by one winner takes their prize, now it’s my turn. “Seterusnya dipersilakan Nik Mohd Fairus Ismail, pemenang pingat perak kategori PC/Network support dari ILP Selandar” OMG.. Now I now that I've won silver medal which carry RM5000. Praise to God. Finally the secret reveal. But I’m still wondering how KSM got the result. Indeed..

Peace of Mind I

Mama's holding Nik Mohd Afiq at Tiara Beach Resort.

Afiq staring at camera.

I win a medal???

Yeah right… But, I’m personally doing not know what type of medal has won by me. Is it Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze? Its keep stuck in my head. All I know is, I was invited to Anugerah Khidmat Cemerlang ceremony as a special guest, I guess. Actually as a Myskill2008 winner aka Medallion winner.

Hurmm.. Feel so happy right now. But, yeah there is a BUT.. I don’t know what is exact result for Myskill2008 competition and why they ( ministerial worker ) knows about this result. Maybe they got a shortlist winner from JPK.

Mix modes

It’s been long time not writing here, feel like a skill of writing slowly fades away and never grow. Don’t have really bright idea these days and too much work will kill me.

Buck up, need to start again. I have a lot of story in my mind, but don’t know what to start first. A lot of things happen and those events just go like a wind.

Currently, I’m waiting for MySkills 2008 competition result. I am the finale participant and everyone will get a prize. The different is how much the money will be mine. First Prize or Platinum Medal will get RM10000. Second, Gold Medal will get RM7000. Third, Silver Medal will get RM5000 and fourth, Bronze Medal will get RM3000.

Hope I’ll be fine soon..

12 Secrets To Success You Need To Know

1. There are no secrets, lessons of achieving success are easily available from the Internet and in the library. There are spiritual teachers who are willing to share their wisdom with you if you are willing to learn and there are gems of wisdom found in many great books.

2. Simple formula for success: "Seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened, ask and you shall receive!"

3. Be true to yourself and others. "Sincerity is the highest mark of a man." and "Integrity is the essence of everything."

4. Leverage. The highest form of leverage is EDUCATION. "If you are so SMART why aren't you RICH? " Being SMART is doing the things right, being WISE is doing the right things right! Education is the process of discovery.
5. Success is a process. It is a function of correction. Even with the latest technology the success rate in the oil drilling industry is about 10% which means you have to go through nine empty oil wells before you find an oil well with oil! If you are a real estate agent, in a normal market, you have to show your house to 5 to 10 customers before you make a sale. It is proven and tested that most sales were made on the 7th call but most people give up before the 5th call!

6. Take action! "The only failure is the FAILURE TO PARTICIPATE. Talk is cheap, don't tell me, show me! Be willing to do whatever it takes ethically to achieve your dreams!

7. Give. To live is to give and to give is to live. Giving is living and receiving and forgiving. Learn to let go and forgive. "One of the biggest obstacles to learning is ego!" You have heard this saying many times: "To err is human, to forgive, divine." You reap what you sow and it will come back to you in many fold!

8. "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the cause of it all?" For things to change first you must change! Take responsibility for your results. You are where you are today it is because of your past thoughts, words and actions! If you want a better life, think positive thoughts, say positive words and take positive actions!

9. Precession. Everything happens for a reason and every cause there is an effect and side effects. Little acts or words of kindness can have a positive chain effect and goes a long way! Pay it forward, when you know something good it is your moral obligation to share.

10.What do you really want? Clarity leads to power. If you don't know where you want to go any road will take you there! All successful people are very clear on where they want to go and what they want to achieve. When you are very clear on what you are living for, you will be living a meaningful life!

11. "You are what you think" Read the book "As A Man Thinketh" by James Allen.

"Mind is the Master-power that moulds and makes,
And Man is Mind, and evermore he takes
The tool of Thought, and, shaping what he wills,
Brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills: -
He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass:
Environment is but his looking-glass.

12. Beliefs. You cannot go against your core values and beliefs. What do you believe? What are the empowering and disempowering thoughts in your mind right now? Yes, you are what you think and your life is the result of your beliefs. If you want to live a better life than you must work on breaking free from your limiting beliefs!

A great way to help yourself is to read good books and mix with good people. Charlie Tremendous Jones said that five years from today the difference in your life will be because of the books you read and the people you meet!

Here it’s comes again.

This Opportunity
Will come for me every 6 month
All I’ve to do is
Try and try again

This Opportunity
Sometime make me feel hoping
Hoping so much hope
But sometimes it’s nothing

This Opportunity
I will try my best
Although it will cost a lot
To achieve my dream

This Opportunity
Never feel negative anymore
I have to accept everything that will come
Cause I’m getting older now

This Opportunity
Maybe will change my life
In the future
An it maybe

This Opportunity
Here it’s comes again.
Here it’s comes again.
Here it’s comes again.

This song is stuck in my head lately, very nice and simple song from Indonesian band. I think it is a one of heavenly song that I ever heard. Hihii..

To A’een, hope we are doing fine. Across a years, a lot of happiness, sadness we are been through. Love is above of all matters.

Happy Anniversary

Sebelas Januari - gigi

Sebelas Januari Bertemu
Menjalani Kisah Cinta Ini
Naluri Berkata Engkaulah Milikku
Bahagia Selalu Dimiliki
Bertahun Menjalani Bersamamu
Kunyatakan bahwa Engkaulah jiwaku

Akulah Penjagamu
Akulah Pelindungmu
Akulah Pendampingmu
Di setiap langkah-langkahmu

Pernahku Menyakiti Hatimu
Pernah kau melupakan janji ini
Semua Karena kita ini manusia

Akulah Penjagamu
Akulah Pelindungmu
Akulah Pendampingmu
Di setiap langkah-langkahmu

Chorus:
Kau bawa diriku
Kedalam hidupmu
Kau basuh diriku
Dengan rasa sayang
Senyummu juga sedihmu adalah Hidupku
Kau sentuh cintaku dengan lembut
Dengan sejuta warna

Your rights have been decline.

Sometime I have to accept it, ignore it and let it go. Sometime I don’t mind if my rights have been dumped. Just ignore it, push it away just like a wind. It goes but we can never see it really goes.

Why most of human is depend on seniority. What is the meaning of the seniority? Is it means old, thinking wisely, a lot of experience and a lot of everything? But seniority also robs everything from junior, an entry level of everything.

I have my own rights, my own perspective, my personality and goals. But a lot of time I have to hold it. Give it to everyone else and sitting down in my little place in the side of office.

Welcome the New Year.

Welcoming the New Year must be exciting time for all people all around the world. They make a new wish, hope and resolution. Year 2007 just go by like a wind. Here it comes, Year 2008.

A lot of thing going on me lately, feel like unmanaged myself. I think it is because my greatest goal last year not achieved. I felt so sad and sometime I feel unmotivated. But life goes on. Let bygones be bygones. Really have to start a new one, a brand new one.

I didn’t compile Year 2008 resolution yet, I really don’t have any idea about it right now. For the time being, I just want to do my chores and live happily with my wife and kid. I didn’t yet study for my incoming PTK. Let it be.

4G91 engine.

After using for 5 years, I decided to transplant my Wira engine from 4G15P auto transmission to 4G91 auto transmission. This is due to several complication happen to my former engine. Auto gearbox jerking, computer box not working properly and too much power loss due to emission.

After waiting for one week, from Monday to Saturday. My Wira was complete of engine transplant. First time I drove it. It was so amazing. Great pickup, gear shift smoothly and low fuel consumption. I don’t know why the engine is quite different from my former engine although their cc is same respectively.

The cost of transplant is RM3,800 complete with Lancer 1.8 halfcut. Actually I bought a Lancer 1.8 halfcut and I sell back a 4G93 engine to the mechanic. I don’t want to use a 1.8 engine because it require several additional gadget to install to my Wira such as rear disk brake and I think I don’t need powerful engine because I want to give this car to my wife.

Other part is using 1.8 gadgets such as throttle body, suspensions, disk brake, water coolant and many more accept the engine. I use 4G91 engine instead. The warranty for this transplant is one month. After that, I will register the new engine by myself. Overall performance, I very satisfied with this engine. I hope this engine will last long.

Entertainer of The Year.

Entertainment Weekly has voted that an author JK Rowling as Entertainer Of The Year. I love reading all the Harry Potter Trilogy by JK Rowling. Hope, she’ll achieve a greater successful in her life.

Harry Potter is a story about young witch and witches who studied in the Magical School in Hogwarts. Harry Potter, Ron and Hermione are best friend and they fight the Dark Lord. Although this story is suitable for a youngster, it is very interesting to enjoy by adults.

Back to my work next week, I have to be an examiner for several papers including theory and practical assessment. This task is very bored and time consuming because I have to sit in the examination hall for 2 – 5 hours. Sigh…..

Keep Thinking…

Student's final exam is just around the corner. It's a week soon. I have already finished my syllabus on my subject. Next week is a study week for students. Therefore, I grab this opportunity to settle up my delay work on checking up student assignments and tests. I have to finish it before final examinations arrive. Because all the coursework must be slipped in students' portfolio.

Stop strongly thinking about life at work for while, sometimes I feel to eventually need to broad my area of specification in life. I hope that I can prepare a new challenging resolution for Year 2008. It's coming soon, just one month left to New Year. I call off several goals this year in consequence of inevitable hindrance.

For my family, currently I am reading a book, titles “Raising a Positive Kid in a Negative World” by Zig Ziglar. Just starting reading, don't have any idea yet to jot down here. I hope I will finish that book from cover to cover.

Few Days Down

As I listening to this song. I feel it's a wonderful song sing by Mandy Moore.

Few Days Down Lyrics

(M.Moore/Weepies)

It’s a take-out weekend
It’s a fake-out smile and pretend
If nobody sees you cry
You can say it was raining outside

CHORUS
And all that you want
Is a few days down
All that you need
A little time to drown
It’s to be expected
With all the weight you carry ‘round
All that you want is
A Few Days Down

It’s a short vacation
To a foreign nation
Oh, nothing familiar here
Just you and your lonesome heart complaining

CHORUS

I’m looking out
Ten stories high
And like a blanket lifted
The quiet night
The city finally waking up
To the morning light

Failure is an opportunity

My application to further study in Uitm is not success. I just check the application from Uitm online portal. I was so hard for me but I believe, All the thing happen is planned by Almighty. Only He knows why.

Although I feel very upset, there must be something good that I don’t realize. I take this as a trigger for me to struggle more. Failure is an opportunity? Is that right? Not every people are ever feeling it.

Got to go, I have a lot of work to do today. I don’t want emotion to control my heart. Adios….

Harry Potter Character

Which Harry Potter Character Are You?

You are part Harry. You're a loyal and courageous friend. You'd do anything to protect the people you love, especially if it'll get you a break from class for a little while.
You are part Ron. You're the typical sidekick. Sometimes you get jealous of your more popular friends, but that's only because you don't how much work it is to be in the spotlight.

Wanna go home.

Lately, I don’t have any mood to work. Student’s final exam is around the corner. I got to do a lot of chores. Sometime I feel like to going somewhere where everyone didn’t thinking about work. But life goes on; I have to do a work to feed my wife and child.

I’m in blues….. Here is heavenly song from Michael Buble, currently listening to it.

Home

Another summer day
Has come and gone away
In Paris and Rome
But I wanna go home
Mmmmmmmm

Maybe surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel all alone
I just wanna go home
Oh, I miss you, you know

And I’ve been keeping all the letters that I wrote to you
Each one a line or two
“I’m fine baby, how are you?”
Well I would send them but I know that it’s just not enough
My words were cold and flat
And you deserve more than that

Another aeroplane
Another sunny place
I’m lucky I know
But I wanna go home
Mmmm, I’ve got to go home

Let me go home
I’m just too far from where you are
I wanna come home

And I feel just like I’m living someone else’s life
It’s like I just stepped outside
When everything was going right
And I know just why you could not
Come along with me
'Cause this was not your dream
But you always believed in me

Another winter day has come
And gone away
In even Paris and Rome
And I wanna go home
Let me go home

And I’m surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel all alone
Oh, let me go home
Oh, I miss you, you know

Let me go home
I’ve had my run
Baby, I’m done
I gotta go home
Let me go home
It will all be all right
I’ll be home tonight
I’m coming back home

Happy Birthday

Today is a last day I am working, tomorrow will be Depavali holiday and I’d apply leave for the next Friday. Something big is going to happen tomorrow. My queen of my heart is going to celebrate her birthday tomorrow. I have planned to make a surprise. I want to dedicate a love song from Anuar Zain for her. The song title is I’m the lucky One’s.

This is a second year we are celebrating together as a family. A lot of events happen, and I always keep in my mind, as long as we still tolerate each other, love and treat is as a sacred, and happiness will be ours.

Good bye October

Welcome a new month, November. There something important to be happen. Indeed. Last month is a very memorable; we got Ramadan, Hari Raya and many more. Raya@Kampung this year not going well, my child, Afiq got flu and we just stayed in the house. We don’t want the situation gone badly if we bring Afiq everywhere.

My wife’s birthday on November 8, I’m not really sure what the present will I buy for her. I hope a piece of cake should be okay, hehee. I know she’s not a reader of my blog anymore. So I can write anything about her in this blog. As far as I know, blogspot.com cannot be accessed from her office due to firewall restriction. Pity her.

Wandering around

I enjoy free time today; don’t have any single class on Wednesday, great right. During my free time, I prepared an assessment paper for tomorrow classes. I plan to give them a simple knowledge and practical quiz. Just for refresher course.

While listen Mandy Moore latest single, I browse www.bernama.com for latest information. I found many of news covered about new government agenda that is NCER and ECER. I don’t quite understand what the hell is “Economic Region”, but as long as it will bring more benefit to Malaysian. That’s good.

Also in the news is Datuk Khusaini has been appointed as chairmain of Education Services Commission aka Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Pendidikan. I don’t really sure Datuk Khusaini is a PTD or PPP.

But luckily, I let is go, no hard feeling. Better go home and play with my wife and child. Hehee… Anyway, I’ll do anything with all my best. Most of me bla bla bla…… (some motivational quote)…..

Hari Raya Goodies.

Hari Raya comes again this year, that’s mean I have to prepared all item such as Hari Raya clothes, Kuih Raya and last but not least, Duit Raya. This year, I planed to give my entire nephew at the same rate of Duit Raya except for those who study in IPTA.

I went to Jasin Town this noon to change new money. But all of them were out of stock. Oh no... Really disappointed, what should I do? All I have is RM 50 and RM 10 note. I’m not going to give my entire nephew RM 50 per person. I’m not rich enough. I hope this problem will solve later.

This year, I will celebrate Raya as usual in my hometown in Terengganu. Really nice place and people are friendly. To anybody who celebrate Raya in Terengganu. You’re invited to my place. Indeed…

I seated with the Director of her office apart from my wife, beside me is Mrs. Anis's husband and Malacca Forestry Officer. I was quite formal but I have enjoyed the food. Thank to the Malacca Land and Mine Office for inviting us.

Today, I was quite busy preparing and compiling a new question for Semester 1 knowledge assessment. The assessment will be held on tomorrow from 11.30 am to 1.00 pm. After finished compile the question, I go to photocopier machine to print a question book for 21 students.

I received “kuih raya” that I ordered from my colleague last week, it’s “kuih suji” and “kuih cip coklat”. I bought 2 boxes for each. I think it’s enough because my wife also bought a “kuih raya”. It’s not wise in spending I we’ve bought so many “kuih raya”.

Ok, don’t have any idea to write. Lastly, I must always put in my mind that the spending of money must be well planned otherwise I’ll suffer then. Don’t buy if thing not very important. As long as you plan, you’ll never fail. 

Finding a crèche

Yesterday, mother-in-law and I went to Kak Zaimah’s house to discuss about my boy. I planned to send my boy there while I in working day. Unfortunately, she wasn’t at home because she went back to her village. I told her daughter to envoy my message to her mother that I was going to send my little boy.

I need to discus about fee and time to send to her house. I have surveyed the price of the crèche before. Not so bad, it was about RM150 to RM 250 per month. That mean I have to spend about RM500 monthly for my little boy.

Although there was a risk to let my child in crèche, I have to do it because I don’t want to bother my mother-in-law. She also has other chores to do at home. Ermm.. I mean it is a household chore and she’s also missing her other grandchild in Johore. She visits her grandchild once in a while.

Lately, my wife is really busy because she’s heading to involve in new ICT project. I was pity at her. But I can’t really help her. All I can do is to give a support and cheer her in whatever condition. Good Luck for her.

I was stuck on doing application for uitm-PLK, I read clearly the passage of the condition of application. They need a transcript of diploma. I called CIAST to request the transcript but the response is very bad. I have to wait for long time to wait another people to pick up the phone. I spoke to En. Suhaimi, he asked me to write a application letter to Head of Bahagian Pengurusan Latihan.

This morning, I spent about 2 hours to write a letter; actually I don’t have any idea what the letter look is like. I just open Ms Word and just type whatever flying in my mind. Hope the reason I put on it is acceptable. I will fax the letter in this evening.

My goal

This year, I have setting up several goals to achieve. I have achieved two out of three main goals for this year. From the beginning of the year, strong efforts have taken to finish the goal.

My first thrust is moving a workplace from Terengganu to Malacca, I begin this effort from end of August 2006 and the it is achieved on January 2007, After three month amendment, I begin working in Malacca on April 2007.

Second goal is passing a MUET examination. I filled up a form of application for MUET exam on January 2007. The MUET have held on March and I got a result on July. Fortunately I pass the exam with band three. It was not excellent but I’m satisfied with that result. Maybe I will retake the exam on end year of 2008.

Lastly is to further my study, this goal not achieve yet. I plan to fill up the form of application to public universities in the end of this year. It was for January 2008 intake. I plan to do a part time study. The course that I want to choose is Business Administration (International Trade). I hope that I will achieve this goal.

Mastering writing skills

This article is taken from thestar.com.my

ASK an average student these days to write in English, let it be at school or university and he will find it an uphill task despite having learnt the language for many years.

Sad to say, “cut and paste” is becoming the norm in academic work these day and this can even be found in students’ written work at the higher level.

That the summary question had to be dropped from the MUET paper, I suppose, was not that students were not analytical enough to write summaries but they found it just impossible to summarise passages in their own words.

They end up producing the same sentences found in the reading passages despite being instructed not to do so.

Without writing skills, students would not be able to even paraphrase a simple paragraph in their own words, let alone write an original piece of work.

Proper coaching on how to write well in English should start at school. Students should be advised not to be nonchalant about acquiring skills for writing, especially when they are in the academic set-up.

Students should realise that what is indispensable in writing is for both the thinking and writing processes to be interlaced to produce something meaningful.

Thinking is an activity of the mind that generates and develops ideas, and therefore it should precede writing.

The teaching of writing to students should also be approached as a problem-solving activity.

Students who write better are more flexible in that they do not operate within the limits of rigid rules but rather concern themselves with the rhetorical situation – the audience, the circumstances that elicit the discourse and the constraints.

Studies have shown that students who have been exposed to a lot of reading find it less of a burden when it comes to writing, as they function in writing without being conscious of the grammar process.

The poor students have been found to be more concerned with the surface features – interrupting their thinking by editing their writing prematurely.

When they write, they write in an inter-language – they think in their native language and the English structures follow that of their native language. Most of our weak students have not overcome this problem.

For those students who are strung-up when asked to write, it would help if they conform to some explicit safe rules that have been proven effective in writing.

Teach them to write non-stop with no self-censorship, stop, read, reflect and sum up what they have written.

They need to be taught to invent, take risks and write down their ideas quickly in raw form without concern for grammar yet.

They should not limit themselves to the confines of style or form.

Though they may lack the right words to express, teach them to develop different points of view to the task and ensure that they understand the concept first.

Students need to be taught to build up their confidence before they can start to write well.

Monday is Beautiful

Attack on teachers

Recently, there are many reports on the media accusing teacher as a violent people. There are several cases link to the teacher had been made a police report by student’s parent. There no media in Malaysia who decline the report like this. I feel very frustrating because teaching profession is very high principles.

What should the teachers do to deal with the students who insult them? The parent also should not defense their child; it must be a reason for teacher to act like that. The teacher not dealt only with one child, but it almost 30 to 40 students per class. It was a big crowd.

There many honored service the teacher have given to our society. If the teacher don’t discipline the students, who else will do it for the sake of our country development. The media should turn their report. Don’t write a report just to get the publicity. Write the good thing for our nation. We don’t want Malaysia to be colonized again.

Learning and remembering vocabulary

This article is taken from bbc.co.uk

A variety of techniques
It's important to use a variety of methods to help you to effectively learn new vocabulary. Different strategies work better for different learners. Try out a few ways of recording and remembering vocabulary and decide which works best for you.

A bilingual notebook
A bilingual notebook can be very useful. Have words in English on one side of the page and words in your own language on the other. Test yourself on the train or bus in the morning. A good vocabulary notebook should also contain other information about the word or phrase you're trying to learn: for example the pronunciation, what part of speech it is (is it a verb or noun) and what words it's commonly used in combination with.

Organise your vocabulary in categories
It's easier for most students to remember words in groups. For example you could write all the things you find in a kitchen on one page. You could also make a vocabulary map or network of related words.

Use your new vocabulary
When you make a note of new words try to use them. If you use a word frequently you are more likely to remember it, especially if you can personalise it. Try writing and remembering a sentence about your life which uses the word.

Use word association and mental images
Some people try to remember words by associating them with something from their own language. The example we heard in the programme was a woman trying to learn Arabic. She said the word for hospital is 'mustashfa', which she thought sounded like the English word 'moustache'. So to memorise the word she imagined hospital workers with moustaches.

Try recording yourself
Someone suggested recording their new vocabulary and then playing the words back to themselves. This also has the advantage of allowing you to practise your pronunciation.

Songs
Songs are a very memorable way of learning vocabulary.

MSR Inaugural Ceremony

The MSR Inaugural Ceremony has successfully carried out this morning. The Inauguration was held by ILPS Director. I and my colleague had prepared a reception and protocol for this event.

In his speech, The Director told a student take thinks that MSR is not a common week, but the student must think MSR is a motivation week. A lot of work, speech and advice will be given in this week.

The Institute also will not compromise if the student makes an offence. A stern action will be taken to the student who break the law and maybe they will be dismiss from Institute.

A video of Staff Introduction had view in the end of the ceremony. I create that video all by myself. But a simple error have been detect on that video. But it not is affecting the ceremony. After ceremony, we have an indifferent meal.

MUET Result.

Today, I got a result of my MUET examination. I got a band three, it’s not so bad but I need to do more effort because I thought that band 3 is not a satisfactory result. But I’m not felt disappoint for this result.

If I have a chance next time, I will retake this exam as an indicator to my proficiency to English language. I love English very much and I must work hard to master it. From this day, I will strive to remember at least 5 words per day. I hope this will increase my vocabulary.

Another challenge in English is speaking. I would try to speak with everyone else especially the one who close to me. Learning English is a never ending learning. Hope there will be someone who will help to achieve my goal.

Speed Reading

This article taken from mindtools.com

Speed Reading helps you to read and understand text more quickly. It is an essential skill in any environment where you have to master large volumes of information quickly, as is the norm in fast-moving professional environments. And it's a key technique to learn if you suffer from "Information Overload."

The Key Insight

The most important trick about speed reading is to know what information you want from a document before you start reading it: if you only want an outline of the issue that the document discusses, then you can skim the document quickly and extract only the essential facts. If you need to understand the real detail of the document, then you need to read it slowly enough to understand it fully.

You will get the greatest time savings from speed reading by learning to skim excessively detailed documents.

Technical Issues

Even when you know how to ignore irrelevant detail, there are other technical improvements you can make to your reading style which will increase your reading speed.

Most people learn to read the way young children read - either letter-by-letter, or word-by-word. As an adult, this is probably not the way you read now - think about how your eye muscles are moving as you read this. You will probably find that you are fixing your eyes on one block of words, then moving your eyes to the next block of words, and so on. You are reading blocks of words at a time, not individual words one-by-one. You may also notice that you do not always go from one block to the next: sometimes you may move back to a previous block if you are unsure about something.

A skilled reader will read many words in each block. He or she will only dwell on each block for an instant, and will then move on. Only rarely will the reader's eyes skip back to a previous block of words. This reduces the amount of work that the reader's eyes have to do. It also increases the volume of information that can be examined in a period of time.

A poor reader will become bogged down, spending a lot of time reading small blocks of words. He or she will skip back often, losing the flow and structure of the text and overall understanding of the subject. This irregular eye movement makes reading tiring. Poor readers tend to dislike reading, and may find it harder to concentrate and understand written information.

How to Use Tool:

Speed reading aims to improve reading skills by:

  • Increasing the number of words read in each block
  • Reducing the length of time spent reading each block, and
  • Reducing the number of times your eyes skip back to a previous sentence.

Reducing skip-back:
To reduce the number of times that your eyes skip back to a previous sentence, run a pointer along the line as you read. This could be a finger, or a pen or pencil. Your eyes will follow the tip of your pointer, smoothing the flow of your reading. The speed at which you read using this method will largely depend on the speed at which you move the pointer.

You will be able to increase your reading speed a certain amount on your own by applying speed reading techniques.

What you don't get out of self-study is the use of specialist reading machines and the confidence gained from successful speed-reading - this is where a good one-day course can revolutionize your reading skills.

Key points:

By speed reading you can read information more quickly. You may also get a better understanding of it as you will hold more of it in short term memory.

To improve the speed of your reading, read more words in each block and reduce the length of time spent reading each block. Use a pointer to smooth the way your eyes move and reduce skip-back.

Why giving up citizenships?

According to the Deputy Minister, Ministry of Home Affair Datuk Tan Chai Ho, it is about 106,000 Malaysians who giving up their citizenship and they live in other country such as United State of America, Australia, Singapore and Indonesia. Malay recorded as a largest percentages followed by Chinese and Indian. Malay state at 70%, it is about 79,199 individuals.

Women are majority who migrate the other country, the main reason of this is a marriage. The Prime Minister of Malaysia urges that Malaysians who giving up their citizenship will not give it back to them if they want to be Malaysians. He said, the door has been closed for them who don’t want to be Malaysians.

Why this matter is happen. Is it something wrong with education system? There are many Malaysian who not love this country and bear to leave this country and giving up their citizenship. Policy Maker! It’s a food for thought for you.

Expanding your vocabulary

This article is taken from Thestar.com.my

ONE of the biggest problems all language learners face is how to learn and remember vocabulary. Depending on individual learning styles, techniques that work well for one person may not help another person at all – one may have to see a word or phrase, another hear it spoken and yet another must write it down. Yet without vocabulary you will never be able to communicate so it is a problem everyone must come to terms with.

What do you need to learn?

The Subject Matter

  • Think about the context you use English in. If you spend time learning vocabulary associated with films or shopping, you may find it interesting, but don’t forget your immediate needs.

  • The type of vocabulary you need may be predetermined by your future career if you want to work in tourism or sales and marketing.

  • You may need specific vocabulary for exams.

    Sound

  • Listen to a word before you see it whenever you can. The way a word is written is often different from the way it’s pronounced. Learn how to use the phonetic chart to make learning the pronunciation of new words easy.

  • Know how to use all the functions of your dictionary.

    Spelling

  • Learn some of the more common spelling rules such as ‘i’ before ‘e’ except after ‘c’ (as in “receipt”), or change the ‘y’ to an ‘i’ and add ‘es’ (as in “spies” for the plural of “spy”). There are exceptions but it’s a good start.

  • Learn suffixes such as -tion and -ment. This will help you spell and deduce the meaning of new words.

  • Learn either American or English spelling, depending on your needs, and know the differences.

    Strength and related words

  • Know how strong a word is. When learning the word “big”, find out what words are associated with it, such as “huge”. You can then use the word effectively and build your vocabulary at the same time.

    Antonyms

  • Knowing the opposite of a word will expand your vocabulary range and you will be less restricted. When you learn a new word, be inquisitive and systematically find out the antonym.

    Word Type

  • Always find out whether the word is a noun, verb, adjective or adverb. This helps you to place it correctly in a sentence.

    How to learn?

    Context:

  • A word on its own won’t help you communicate. Always put a new word into a sentence.

  • Learn vocabulary in chunks. We talk in expressions so learn it that way.

    Record yourself:

  • Say a word in your own language onto a tape. Leave a gap of a few seconds and then say the English word. When you’ve finished recording, listen back, fill in the gaps and hear the answer.

    Split your learning:

  • Learn a new word every day. Always look over ‘old’ words to revise what you know.

  • Take a subject per week and build up your vocabulary logically.

  • Be realistic about how many words you can learn in the time you have.

    How to remember it?

Word building implies not only exposing yourself to new words but also retaining them in your memory.

  • Make your own personalised dictionary. Draw pictures of nouns if you are a visual learner.

  • Stick post-it notes around the house.

  • Look at new words several times and use them as soon as possible after learning them. Hearing a word once isn’t enough to actually learn it.
  • Brains drain.

What is the meaning of brain drain? Based on article on Wikipedia, brain drain or human capital flight is an emigration of trained and talented individual (human capital) to other nation or jurisdictions. This is due to conflict, lack of opportunity and other where they are living.

Why this is happen in Malaysia? Are we done prepared the facility enough to give to this talented individual? Brain drain happen because we are Malaysian’s who not thankful to our country. We don’t ever think about Malaysia’s development and loyal service.

Malaysia needs a talented people out there to achieve the national mission. Our government today is stressing in poverty eradication by capacity building and human capital. This mission will not realize if we all Malaysia don’t contribute to our country.

    What age do we live?

We live in the age of engineer, not a poet anymore. This is my new philosophy of live. I used to live in the poet age, but I think, being a poet is not living in a real world. We live in the cloudy and above the sky.

So, what the engineer do and doesn’t. I always put in my mind that we must be live in a real world. Meet a real challenge and don’t get easy to frustrate. If fail for sometime, maybe next time I’ll success the other time, all the time. Failure is not a burden, but it is an opportunity to achieve successful life.

When we success in something, don’t ever to feel arrogant and selfish. Be nice and put a goal to achieve more from that. Put a milestone for the goal and try to achieve it one by one. Don’t ever forget to pray to the Almighty.

    Math Challenge

I take almost a week to finish correcting Math Paper and insert the student mark into the CGPA system. I thinks it is not a really tough because before this. I correct paper for three to four papers by a semester. But, it is first time for me to teach a common subject like Math.

It is quite frustrating for me because the result of a student is not so good. Several student got mark below ten point per hundred. It is very poor mark. Instead, five of my student got A’s. Their achievement my make slightly happy, because the worse mark is the majority. If I were assign to teach this subject for next semester. I must give them a lot of exercise to them understands, not to memorize.

Actually, mathematic is a very nice subject. I love math very much and I love to make everyone love math. Because math will balances everything. Stimulate your brain and make our brain work. Next semester, I will ensure my student love math first. And then they will love to learn math.

    Is it 1 sen valuable?

Do you keep one cent coins everywhere? I always ask this question to myself. Is it not valuable? Of course it still valuable in this current situation. But I'm not always carry one cent in my pocket or my wallet because it will bother my. It may heavy if we carry a lot of it.

My wife always carry one cent in her handbag. Everywhere she goes. Sometime, I feel that she is doing right things because when we at shopping market. If the goods we buy are cost a cent at it tails. She will pay it with one cent coins. Unlike with me, I always go to post office to pay a bill. When the like this, I feel it is important to carry one cent coins.

At the grocery market, sometime I feel embarrassing to use one cent coins. It is because there is no one else used it. It will cumbersome and everyone else must be seen at me with sympathy. J

At the hotel, we are please to be seated at VIP table. It is about 8 people in that table. We going to have a Chinese dinner set. It is about 8 menus that we have to finish it. I eat slowly because I have already eaten at the evening before we go to the hotel.

The dinner goes well. There is a combo team from Henry Gurney School entertaining us. The Director also sang two songs. I remembered one of the songs that he sang is Widuri. It is a nice song. The Director also has a nice voice.

The dinner end at 11.00 pm. The last agenda is staff from all departments gives a present to the Director. One of the present is a Notebook. Then we were going back to our house. We reach at home on 12.00 pm.

    Staff Introductionary

This week, I have to complete one task had given to me by my superior. It is a video containing staff introduction. This video must have a picture of staff, their name, post, grade and which department that the staff is working.

I start it with finding latest organization chart from EO and re-sorting the staff by their grade and than their department. I know it is quite boring if the video don't have sound effect. So I start to find a suitable sound effect on the net. Unfortunately, I found nothing suitable to my video.

I borrow a microphone from my superior. I use this microphone to record sound from television. After recording a few sound effect. I have choose them and embed in my movie. After that I start to recording a background music.

    New Economic Policy (NEP)

Recently, we are shocks by the comments made by Europian Commission delegation to Malaysia's Thierry Rommel. He is critising over New Economic Policy (NEP) that is run by Malaysian Goverment over 37 years.

Few days after that,Rommel told the associates press that he inform the Foriegn Ministry deputy secretary-general, Datuk Othman Hashim that he not mean to intefere in internal politics when he make a speech last week.

Meanwhile, the UMNO youth's international relations and non-govermental organization bureau said that Rommel must consider the sensivity of the multi racial society in the country before commenting on the NEP.

Basically, this comments is baseless. We, as Malaysian don't ever belief such comment like this. All we want is the stability of our country, gaining increasing in economic and become develop nation.

    Not fearing to fails

I'm interested when I read The Star in the business colum. It's was about Idris Jala, the COE of Malaysia Airlines. The most important point in that article is Idris mention about doing the imposibble things and not fearing to fails.

Wow, I think it a wonderfull thought of Idris Jala. I want to adapt it to me in learning English Language. I will never afraid in learning. I have taken MUET exam on January this year, if the result was not ok. I will do it again. Again and agian until I got the result that would satisfy me.

For this time, I learn English by myself. If this not workout. I am planning to attend to English class next year, this is due to financial constraint this year. Learning is cost a money right!. Thank to Idris Jala, I like your word. Espicially not fearing to fails and do the impossible things. I hope I can do better next time.

    Human Trafficking

Today I read about what is human trafficking, it's because my country is list as a 3-tier country on human trafficking. The survey in conducted by US Department. I think this is one-side report and basicless. I know what is my country and all people in my country is hate human trafficking because our religion forbide us to do like that.

Human traficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of people for the purpose of exploitation. Trafficking involves a process of using illicit means such as threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability.

But my Prime Minister agree with that report, but not 100% agree. He want more effort to prevent human trafficking must be taken. As Malaysian, we must promote our country in honour of Malaysian Celebration 50 years of Independance.

    Computer Maintenance.

We recently heard about the goverment building is leaking and need to repair. It's because a leak of mantenance work. It must be cost a lot to goverment money. It's same about computer, if we don't do a maintenance. The computer lastly will go beserk.

So, how to do a computer maintenance. Is it will cost you a lot of money. I think it is not a big problem. Just do a simple maintenance such cleaning your mouse, keyboard, system unit and other part. It is a hardware part.

For software part, you must do a Windows Update and Antivirus Update regularly. You also need to do a backup/ If the problem comes, an it will not save by doing maintenance. Lastly you have to recover or roll back your data from a backup data. That's why computer maintenance is important.

    ICT and civil servants

Based on The Star report on Teusday June 5, 2007. One survey has conducted by Kelly Services Inc, an international recruitment company. The survey found that only 53% of goverment employees regularly use internet compared to 80% of worker in private sector.

The survey also found that only 61% of goverment officers think that internet can improve their productivity. In contrast, 72.5% of private workers who said yes. According to the Kelly Services, the reason why civil servants not keen to use internet is because email is still not considered as legally binding in many instances.

However goverment officials disagree with this finding, that because there is no specific data on that, said the spokesman of Malaysian Administrative Modernization and Management Unit (MAMPU). MAMPU is a part of Prime Minister's Office and is responsible for promoting the use of e-Goverment application.

    Teenagers

When we heard a teenager, what in our head thinking of them. It's something about rude, craziness and hot blood. Some time I wonder why teenagers does not thinking before they do something. Actually, I have a story to tell about teenagers

There's one girl who flirt with her boyfriend and will give the boy anything in her to that boy. It was so pity. Does not that girl think about her mother and father before she going with guy. I told that girl. Have you ever think where is your father and your mother when you do such a dirty work. Does you think about them. So, why you ever do bad thing with other boy.

She does not know what is happen to her in 5 year coming. Does the boy will protect her, does the boy will marry her. It is unsure yet. So, only knowledge will protect her. I you don't have the knowledge yet. Find it right now.

I hope someday, this girl will realize what I told to her. I does not mean to torture her. But, it was my duty to tell the teenager how is important the knowledge. Even though they will hate me. I have to do this because this is my duty.

    The Magic Words

Every human creature is a servant of God
Men who suffer not, Attain no perfection
The love of God bring endless happiness
Fear and ignorance are the root cause of intolerance
Love base on wisdom is real love
    A watched kettle never boils
A drowning man will clutch at a straw
Every family has a skeleton in the cupboard
The source of all good is trust in God
Peace is pure force that penetrates the shell of chaos
Tolerance is the knowledge of the other
Life is a field of action
Honesty is never to misuse that which is given in trust
Love is the catalyst for change, development and achievement
The giving of love is itself an education
    Honesty is the best policy
Succeeding is no harder than failing

    Tabligh Vs Jihad

When I was sitting waiting for final exam, i was talking to one staff who was a Tabligh people. I have many thing to say, but sadly, I'm not very fluent in English.

Our conversation is about 'nafsu amarah yang marah' :-), he told me that he go to some place where is the people the like to "menyabung ayam". He told me how to advice that people. Not with a rough way. Must be polite.

Then he want me to help him to print his logo with color printer, so i tell him to go to my boss and use my boss's printer. But he refuse, because he hate and angry to my boss. It is because it was scold by my boss. He tell me that he cannot stand cool if someone talking not polite to him.

The tabligh man said that he cannot see or even talking to my boss, because of 'amarah' feeling.. He can control the feeling even he want to beat my boss..

In my heart, so pity to this tabligh man. Everyday he tell people about good of religion, but he himself cannot control a truly enemy. The enemy is inside his body, he cannot kill the enemy but he must control it. That is the truly battle, I mean a battle that never ending, "jihad". I think, in Tabligh, there is no "jihad". they just "dakwah".
